Description

Summary:

This position is responsible for our health and wellness product portfolio, including P&L responsibilities. This position directs a skilled product team that is responsible for the product management and product development of our health and wellness products and services. This visible position is at the heart of serving our mission: helping people live healthier lives, and the desired candidate will have a passion for helping others achieve their health goals. The desired candidate will also have an intimate understanding of the health and wellness market, an eye for innovation, and a bias for action. This position reports directly to the vice president of product and marketing.

This position will identify market intelligence requirements, work with market research to synthesize the knowledge, understand the competitive landscape, recognize emerging trends, and strategically secure and allocate the development resources to maximize our performance. The leadership, planning, and strategic direction for the product lines by market segment should result in the organization achieving or exceeding the revenue and profit goals. This position will identify customers' needs and oversee the translation of data information into product changes, service enhancements and/or new benefits. They will work cross functionally with internal and external suppliers to make the plans operational including underwriting, network management, health management operations, affiliate companies, sales and account management regarding the product lines.

Accountabilities:

1. Directs the development of new products and services, which meet the needs of the market, achieves the business standards, and can be effectively implemented.
2. Identifies distinct product development modules and the associated requirements that can deliver value and speed the time to market as a component of the overall plan.
3. Identifies and evaluates opportunities to outsource the development of services versus internal and makes recommendations based upon the strengths and weaknesses of the alternatives.
4. Develops, documents, maintains and improves work process methodologies to achieve maximum efficiency in the product lines.
5. Coordinates the timing of product introductions to optimize the value within the sales cycles for each of the distinct market segments.
6. Directs the creation of annual business market plans for product lines. Ensures business market plans include appropriate promotion and communications plans.
7. Monitors product performances and oversees any modifications or enhancements that are needed to improve all products competitive positioning.
8. Facilitates training, communication and focus between appropriate business functions and relevant product line issues.
9. Manages the department including interviewing and hiring employees following required EEO and Affirmative Action guidelines and ensures employees receive the proper training. Conducts performance evaluation, and is responsible for managing employees, including skill and career development, policy administration, discipline, employee relations and cost control.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

- Accepting this director level position at BCBSMN requires signing an Agreement Regarding Non-Disclosure of Confidential Information and Non-Competition as a condition of employment.
- Bachelors degree with 7 years product management experience within a service industry
- Knowledge of the health and wellness market
- 5 years direct staff management experience
- Must have a marketing background
- Must have experience working in a large matrix management organization with profit and loss responsibilities
- Demonstrated communications skills (oral and written)
- Demonstrated leadership and management experience
- Proven record of pertinent accomplishments and expertise
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with a diverse workforce
- Effective negotiation and presentation skills
- Strong critical and systems thinking skills

Preferred Qualifications:

- MBA preferred
- Training in Lean and Six Sigma techniques a plus
- Experience in MN markets desirable
