Description

Summary:

This position is responsible for ensuring that ancillary products and services are market-leading, innovative, achieve profitability & membership goals, and are well positioned on and off the Minnesota exchange (MNsure). This position is responsible for providing leadership, planning, strategic direction, and driving development of the annual and three-year plans. This position will be responsible for driving planning sessions with key internal teams (including sales, underwriting, actuarial, operations, channel, marketing, finance, IT, etc.) and strategic business partners. Focus areas include: establishment and execution of market insights, product lifecycle management, market planning, portfolio management, portfolio delivery, financial management, performance monitoring, pricing, and strategic integration.

Accountabilities:

1. Lead the strategy and development of the annual and three-year plans for ancillary product areas (Vision; Life and Disability; etc.). Drive planning sessions to develop the strategies, plans, and tactics to achieve profitable customer acquisition and retention to achieve enrollment, revenue and profit performance and business goals.

2. Architect, facilitate and drive complex strategy sessions with Blue Cross’ senior management and cross-functional leadership teams – ensuring alignment of segment strategies with the company’s strategic direction and plan.
3. Advance an integrated approach to identification and resolution of market trends in collaboration with sales, market research, marketing, customer experience and other functional areas. Drive the discovery and validation of market problems and opportunities (both existing and future customers) and translate these to opportunities for the portfolio – re-stages, new offerings, or new niche markets.
4. Direct the overall portfolio management / lifecycle management and portfolio delivery including re-stages, new offerings, and retirement of existing products to meet the overall needs of the market and achieve the business and financial objectives. Infuse market research findings into the development of products and solutions.
5. Monitor and evaluate the segment portfolio performance including market share, profitability, growth, customer feedback and competitive insights. Oversee portfolio optimization to improve Blue Cross’ competitive position.
6. Develop key segment communications, presentations and materials tailored to executive and senior management, Board of Directors and key stakeholders.

Maintain close relationships with the market (through customers, brokers, agents, consultants, BCBS association / Blues Plans, ancillary carriers and industry experts) to inform opportunity areas. This includes identification of appropriate target segments, their unmet needs, and strategies to address these needs.

Determine opportunities and strategies to buy/build/partner decisions to advance the overall business strategies. Serve as the key point person for BCBS for ancillary carrier relationships.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 10 years work experience in the healthcare industry focusing on sales, marketing, sales operations, product or related field OR 14 years of related work experience in lieu of a degree.
- 3 years experience managing complex projects involving multiple team members including: task assignment, working with key customers (internal or external), managing teams, customer relationships, and project deliverables. Excellent portfolio management skills and supporting project management skills.
- Strong strategic thinking, analytical, innovation, financial, and decision making skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; proven ability to communicate and collaborate with multiple audiences (internally – various levels of management; externally – healthcare professional, business people, and consumers).
- Proven experience in developing and executing winning product plans to deliver corporate objectives.
- Skilled at managing products through stage gate development process.
- Ability to drive results in a complex, often ambiguous, environment.
- Proven experience in managing products in a highly regulated environment while meeting overall corporate objectives.
- Self-directed; ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in a timely manner.
- Self-directed to expand industry best practices to extend to BCBSMN.
Preferred Qualifications:

- MBA or MHA preferred

- Product management discipline expertise preferred (ex. Pragmatic Marketing)
